The Muladhara or Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine also known as the tail bone. It has four pedals and opens downwards. Its primary function is to keep us grounded. The Muladhara addresses a persons basic need for survival. It also governs our ability to manifest what we need in our life in order to survive. In short this chakra provides the vital energy required to get things done. The four petals or Viritti meaning “waves” or “ripples” of disturbance are – greatest joy, natural pleasure, delight in controlling passion, and blissfulness in concentration.

The Muladhara connects us with the spiritual energies of our ancestors and the traumas they faced. Any events that threatened your ancestors basic survival, their challenges and their triumphs are all recorded within the energies of the root chakra. These memories are imprinted and then passed down from generation to generation creating unconscious generational blessings or generational curses. It is up to each individual take responsibility for their own lives and bring to light that which is unconscious. All of the seven chakras are important and interconnected with one another, balancing one chakra will create change in another chakra. It is important however to balance the root chakra first, before proceeding to the others or you will lack the stability necessary for true transformation and personal growth. We cannot grow and change as individuals or as a community until we feel safe and secure in ourselves and rooted in our place in the world
